データのキュレーションを自動的に行うデータベース（DB）と手作業で行うものとを比較したもので、Chemlist（自動）は米国Chemical Abstracts Service（CAS）が、ChemSpider （手作業）は英国王立化学会（Royal Society of Chemistry、RSC）が提供している。
