南アフリカのDSI（Department of Science and Innovation、科学技術イノベーション省）は、3月25日、基金"HEIF（Higher Education Innovation Fund）"を設立したと発表した。
UNDP（United Nations Development Programme、国連開発計画）と共同で実施する本基金は、TVET（Technical and Vocational Education and Training）※のための大学や歴史的に不利な立場にある大学の学生イノベーターや技術起業家を支援することを目的としている。
特に、同国の雇用創出において重要な役割を果たす中小企業に焦点を当て、学生のアイデアを持続可能な企業へ発展させるための支援を行うという。
※難民のための国家認定の技能訓練。幅広い職業分野、生産、サービス、生活に関する教育、訓練、技能開発を行う。
